Winter greetings to all in this, Sakonnet Yacht Club’s 70th
anniversary year. It certainly has proven to be a financially challenging year for many but the Club remains strong, the membership base solid and
committee leadership and member participation very active.
While change seems to be the economic and political buzz word lately, your Board
is working to achieve a constructive balance between change and continuity. The veterans on the Board are energized by four new members all of
whom bring fresh insights along with his or her valuable expertise. Committee members have been working on improving facilities, services and
events all at the same reasonable annual dues.
While it holds true every year, it never ceases to amaze me what is accomplished
by a Club that relies on so many volunteers. That said, we are lucky to have Mr. Charlie Hall returning as club manager. In addition, hiring of
the summer staff is shaping up very nicely. Our website continues to be cutting edge and a valuable resource for information. And for those of you
north of the Mason Dixon line suffering through this never ending winter, you can view summer photographs at www.sakonnet.org and feel the warm salty breeze waft through your
computer.
A late Labor Day may afford some of us a little extra time in paradise this
summer. Please pay close attention to the calendars when you get them either through the directory, the mainsheet, the website or a mailing. The
extra days may mean some events take place earlier or later than in the past.
Enclosed you will find brief reports from committee heads updating you on their
activities. As always, if you have any questions or concerns feel free to contact any of us either by telephone or email.
Looking forward to a great summer,
Nancy Osborn
